Walks and Hikes

Walking as an exercise is often underestimated. However it has been proven to help you maintain a healthy weight as well as preventing or managing various health conditions, including; heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. It strengthens your bones and muscles, improves your mood and lowers stress, gives you more energy and stamina, sharpens mental focus and memory and improves balance and coordination. It also has a role to play in preventing or managing cancer. What’s not to love?

Daily (optional) walks on the stunning Cornish coast, in the beautiful countryside or on the moors are part of all our retreats and take place come rain or shine. It is a chance to connect with nature and has been proven to improve our mental health.

All levels of fitness are catered for and for those that want to get the most out of their walks we offer Nordic Walking.

Nordic walking was invented by the Finnish Olympic Skiing team as a way of staying fit in the summer months. The fitness and health benefits of Nordic Walking are significantly greater than regular walking, trekking or even jogging. Scientific research proves that Nordic Walking:

  • Activates 90% of the body's muscles

  • Burns up to 46% more calories than regular walking

  • Increases aerobic effect by up to 25% compared to regular walking

  • Decreases load and strain on the lower body

  • Tones upper arms, shoulders and back muscles

  • Improves lateral mobility of the spine

  • Develops core stability and strength

  • Promotes an upright posture

These benefits are achieved through the use of specially designed poles and a properly learned and performed Nordic Walking technique, whereby the poles are used as a resistance tool to engage the upper body. The result is a low impact, high results, total body exercise.

Training is with a qualified and insured Nordic Walking and Outdoor Exercise Instructor.
