The Raw Retreat is set in 4 acres deep in the heart of the Cornish countryside in an area of great landscape value. It is a peaceful spot betwixt a tributary of the River Lynher, rolling fields and wooded valleys and yet it is only 10 minutes from the A38 which links directly to M5. Wildlife abounds and guests may glimpse otters, deer, brown trout as well as the numerous birds including buzzards and herons. There are two large ponds, a small woodland and ample space to unwind and relax.
We have recently relocated the retreat to a part of Cornwall far more suited to hosting guests who are here on health and wellness programmes. Available at present (July 2019) we have Lynher House Annex and The Shepherd’s Hut.
Country walks sometimes start straight from the retreat. There are many gentle and strenuous local footpaths and extremely quiet single track roads. The beautiful and sometimes rugged Cornish countryside with its rivers, streams, stiles, fields and woods are within walking distance. Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor are a short drive away as is the stunning North and South Cornish Coasts.
All accommodation at the retreat is totally private, self-contained and for your use only. There are no communal areas.

The Shepherd's Hut
Tucked away in a tranquil, secluded spot at the far end of the retreat, our stunning, bespoke, shepherd’s hut, hand-built by master craftsmen, provides the ultimate escape. It is nestled between the fields and a tributary of the River Lynher. The hut has beautiful garden views and with abundant wildlife right outside your door, giving you the best nature has to offer, this is a true rural experience.
Our brand new shepherd's hut** is wonderfully characterful and has been lovingly hand-crafted to our own bespoke and unique design and to the highest specification, providing comfortable, spacious and utterly private accommodation.
The interior of the hut is sumptuously equipped to the highest standard to ensure guests have the most comfortable, blissful experience possible. There is a king size bed to savour restful nights under the stars, cosy seating, a kitchen area to make herbal teas whenever you want and an en-suite shower room. A TV/DVD player and radio keep you entertained.*
After much consideration and research, we chose the renowned makers of the finest shepherd’s huts, Plankbridge. They have supplied huts to several National Trust properties as well as Hampton Court Palace and there is a Plankbridge shepherd’s hut at Highgrove, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall.
The Hut is built using modern timber frame house techniques but to a Victorian design and is lined with sustainable and environmentally friendly British thermafleece sheep’s wool, which keeps the hut warm in the colder months and cool in the summer. For extra warmth it has a traditional wood-burning stove and a full size radiator, ensuring your hut is cosy whenever you stay. It has sustainable oak flooring, door and windows handmade in Dorset, double glazing, mains water supply and electricity.
Handsome and authentic from the outside and a beautiful haven inside, this is the perfect place to get away from it all and have some quiet time to yourself. In every season, in any weather, guests can escape, breathe, unwind and enjoy the peace and beauty of rural Cornwall.
*Please note there is no Wi-Fi in The Shepherd's Hut. The hut is designed to be a retreat from the demands and pressures of everyday life.
